The Look

Gus gave his father "the look" as he sipped his martini. I wonder what he's thinking.

Gus gives his animals a tongue lashing!

I don't know what got into Sweet Little Gus but apparently his stuffed animals needed a harsh lecture!

1st Birthday Parties!

Gus turned ONE so we threw this special birthday boy two parties! One on December 26th just moments after Grandma and Pa Barclay arrived from Madison.

(He thought Grandma Jamie looked pretty silly with her party hat on! With his Christmas bow on his head, did he know that was like the pot calling the kettle black?)

And then a second party on January 3rd when Grandma and Pop Pop Curran, Uncle Al, Aunt Dolores and Cousins Albert and Willy could be there.

His birthday cake was a tower of chocolate cupcakes with blue vanilla frosting.

He liked the frosting...

at both parties!

He got lots of loot!

We are so proud of him!

Happy 1st Birthday, Little Big Man! You've come a looong way in one short year!

Holiday Fun

I hosted a Holiday Cookie Swap for the girls from my book club.Gus made a new friend, Matteo. Both are little champs who overcame big challenges shortly after birth.
The little boys swapped toys while the ladies swapped cookies.
Mommy and baby portrait.
Here we are getting ready to go see some Christmas lights. Gus is wearing a reindeer snowsuit from Grandma Bert.
Beautiful twinkle lights at the Pentagon City ice skating rink.
A rare family photo!
We saw a choir at the National Gallery.Gus seemed to enjoy himself! ;-D
The beautiful National Gallery. The trees that circle the rotunda.
The fountain in the rotunda.
Getting a head start on art appreciation.

Augustus Smiles

Playing in the laundry. This is my favorite sleeper... colorful inmate! Not sure how to describe this snowsuit, but it has ears so I love it!

Our Charlie Brown Tree

The day after Thanksgiving Aunt Dolores and Cousin Albert took us to cut down our first family Christmas tree. We bought one of the smallest, our very own "Charlie Brown" tree. Albert was not impressed. (He is his father's son and kept steering us toward the BIG ones.) Here we are with the tree and "Flat Stanley." (Don't ask, it's some sort of school project for a friend from Riverton... photograph this cutout kid at different locations is my understanding.) Being protective parents, we bundled Gus up tight, but oh did he wail during the car ride there, "I'm TOO HOT." (I knew better than to overdress him, he's a major heat generator, but for some reason I did it anyway!) When he finally got out into the cold he slipped into his usual "comatose baby." (For some reason he does this anytime he's out in nature, except when he's in the woods... he loves looking up at trees.)
Here's our tree all decorated on Christmas Eve.
